Friday, January 7, 2011 - 09:19

Decatur Electronics, Inc., part of the Soncell North America network of companies, will be relocating it’s manufacturing facility from Decatur, Illinois to Phoenix, Arizona. The move will be initiated on Thursday, January 6th and will be implemented over the course of the next 90 days.

The move is a redistribution of work, and consolidation of locations. The relocation will improve supply, manufacturing and distribution efficiency, facilitate growth, and position Soncell NA to fulfill growing international demand.

There will be no interruption in services or deliveries of Decatur Electronics products. This relocation is part of a planned strategy by Soncell North America and parent company Bowmer and Kirkland.

“The move from Decatur to Phoenix will be seamless to our customers,” said Soncell North America CEO Brian Brown, “The Decatur Electronics national direct sales force will remain the same and will continue to offer the outstanding level of service our customers around the country have come to expect.”

Decatur Electronics, Inc. will be re-located to a newly purchased 50,000 square foot manufacturing facility, adjacent to Phoenix Sky Harbor airport, which currently houses American Emergency Products-AEP, a Soncell NA company.

“We’re excited about the opportunity this move presents Soncell North America to build on the 50 year reputation of Decatur Electronics, Inc. as the oldest supplier of police radar in the U.S.,” said Melvin Sheldon, Soncell North America Chairman, Bowmer and Kirkland, “This move will allow us to offer newly developed products including radar, in-car video, trailer displays and message boards, as-well-as enhanced license plate recognition units.”

Soncell North America is one of the largest suppliers of law enforcement and emergency response products and services in the western hemisphere. With headquarters and administrative offices in San Diego, California, the Soncell NA network of companies includes American Emergency Products-AEP in Phoenix, Arizona, Auto Additions and Patrol Power in Salem, Oregon, TW Mobile Engineering in San Diego, California, and the engineering center of excellence in Boulder, Colorado.

This relocation and redistribution of work will result in the elimination of some positions at Decatur Electronics. Soncell North America and Bowmer and Kirkland understand that this will result in hardships for some employees and their families. To mitigate this impact, Soncell NA has retained the services of the ADP Group, a human resources specialty company, to help Decatur Electronics employees affected by the relocation with the transition process. This assistance will include resume writing and support, interview coaching and training, and referral services.

Soncell North America and parent company Bowmer and Kirkland, based in the United Kingdom, offer a global “one stop shop” source for law enforcement and emergency response solutions to clients around the world.
